Crockett Family Resort
Crockett Family Resort is a small private park in the piney woods of East Texas on Houston County Lake, a small recreational lake primarily known for its bass fishing. It was a little rough, but just possibly a gem in the making.
The park has recently changed ownership and they are putting a lot into it, but it’s just not quite there yet. Even with that said, it had a lot to offer. The park, with it’s store and small pizza restaurant, is the public access point to the lake. They just completed a beautiful new dock with several boat slips and will be soon be adding a new restaurant with outside seating. There’s a small pool, lots of open space and a surprising small sand beach.
It was March when we visited so it wasn’t very busy. The RV spots are somewhat small but we had almost the entire front section to ourselves. The back part is mostly long-term residents. Again, there is a lot of work going into improving the park, so some of the RV sites had fresh gravel and were level, whereas others were not in very good shape. We had to switch spots because the electric did not work in the site we had reserved. There are also several cabins throughout the park and a banquet room that can be rented out.
As you would expect in East Texas, there a lot of pine trees and deer were roaming regularly. We found it to be very peaceful. With the lake access, nearby Mission Tejas State Park and a great town of Crockett with a lot to offer itself, this park has the potential to be hidden gem once they complete the renovations.
